A lot of people have wondered if it was possible to use MacBook Pro as a monitor for Xbox 360 using the HDMI. If you are in this category, the answer is a simple yes. Setting up your MacBook pro monitor as a monitor for your Xbox can be done in the few steps listed below.

1. Purchase Elgato EyeTV Hybrid

Inasmuch as it is possible to use your MacBook Pro screen as a monitor for your gaming console, you need an external support to make this work. One of the best hardware for this is the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid. Sold for about $149, this USB stick comes with a coaxial jack input on one end. It also allows you to watch unencrypted cable TV.

2. Plug insertion cable

Connect the audio and video input cables of your Xbox 360 (the yellow, white and red cables you plug into your television) into the coaxial jack input compartments located on one end of the insertion cable. Then plug the insertion cable into the compartment created for it on the side of the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid.

3. Plug into your computer

Plug the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid into one of the USB port of your MacBook Pro like you would plug any standard USB. Once you plug it into your Mac, you should notice that the program will start to run automatically.

4 Change to composite

You will notice a blue screen on your Mac. This is because the display is to the cable. To fix this and get your Xbox 360 displaying on your Mac, go to the control option on your Elgato EyeTV Hybrid. You will find it on top of the app window. Click on 'Controls'. It will bring a drop-down menu with options. Scroll down to 'Composite video input' and click on it. Immediately you should notice the blue screen change to black. Turn on your Xbox 360 and notice it starts displaying on your computer screen.

5. Adjust controller

The moment you start playing the game, one of the first things you will notice is that there is a lag between the controller and what you see on your Mac screen. This can blur your gaming experience. You can fix this by going to the 'View option' on top of your Elgato EyeTV Hybrid. Click on it then go down to 'Display Options'. Then click on 'Devices'. It will bring out a menu. Just below the options 'Encoding, Picture, Info', there is a small checked box with the word 'Enable Timeshift' written beside it. Click on the box to uncheck it. This should fix any lag problems.

6. Full screen

Enabling the full-screen option will eliminate any distraction from the desktop. To activate the full-screen option, go to view menu at the top of Elgato EyeTV Hybrid window. Click on it to open a drop-down menu. Click on 'Enter Full Screen'.
